Astrid & Thomas Rader

We are a couple – he from the western Ruhr area, she from a small town north of Hamburg – and have lived together in the Hanover region since early 2002.

We love travelling and enjoy Andalusia, Rome, Venice, Sicily, New York and Vietnam, to name a few of our destinations – but also the Harz, which is beautiful in every season, not only in winter.

Why log holiday homes in the Harz – and in Schierke in particular?

In 2010 we still had a few prejudices about the Harz, but our very first visit to Schierke, one December in a wonderful snowy landscape, proved us wrong. We visited Goslar, Wernigerode, Quedlinburg, the Brocken and the Wurmberg and were won over by the landscape and the many ways to spend the day.

So we decided to build spacious, exclusively furnished log holiday homes in Schierke, a small, unique mountain village in a beautiful setting. We named our two houses “Einklang” (harmony) and “Blickfang” (eye-catcher). The names are meant to give you a first impression of what awaits you as our guest.

Schierke and the Harz offer a wealth of attractions for young and old and for every taste. That makes Schierke an appealing holiday destination all year round and an ideal base for exploring and hiking, on foot or, in winter, on the cross-country ski trails.

Our first guests arrived when the lodges were completed in July 2016. We like contrasts, so we furnished our log houses inside in an exclusive, modern and spacious way that still feels cosy. We want you to feel at home, find every comfort and enjoy your stay. As for the equipment, especially in the kitchen, we believe it leaves nothing to be desired.

High demand led us to build the BergwaldChalets in 2022, just a few steps away.

Take in the houses and tell us your impressions – we look forward to your feedback. And if anything gives cause for criticism or you feel something is missing, please let us know.

Warm regards, Astrid and Thomas Rader
